Speaker:
Paul Weinstein, President/Chief Consultant, Kepler Solutions, Inc.

This presentation will cover how to get up and running with Apache 2.0 on Linux by highlighting some of the changes between Apache 2.0 and 1.3, how to download and install Apache 2.0 on a common Linux distribution and how to start the testing and migration of deployed Apache 1.3 servers to Apache 2.0.

You Will Learn:

»   History of Apache 2.0 Development
»   Getting the Apache 2.0 Source from Apache.org
»   Building the Apache 2.0 Source on Linux
»   Configuring Apache 2.0
»   Migrating Apache 1.3 to 2.0
»   Basic Apache Principles

Level:
Basic and Intermediate Linux System/Network Administrators

Hardware Requirements:

»   Disk Space - A total of at least 60 MB of free disk space, preferably 100MB or greater.
»   Memory - At least 32MB of RAM, preferably 128MB or greater.
»   Processor - Any x86 based processor such as a 75MHz Intel Pentium. A 300MHz Intel Pentium III, equivalent or better is preferred.

Software Requirements:

»   Latest version of Apache Web Server 2.0 from http://httpd.apache.org/download.cgi
»   Any Linux distribution with the following (or greater):

* GNU C compiler (GCC) version 2.7.2 * GNU binutils version 2.12 * GNU Autoconf version 2.13 * GNU Libtool version 1.3.3

Other Software Requirements
Other system requirements such as the latest versions of Perl, OpenSSL and PHP are not necessary to download, build and run a default Apache 2.0 configured system. However to get the maximum fulfillment out of this lab is it highly recommend that these tools be present.

Prerequisites:
Basic understanding of Linux System Administration, GNU build process.
