S2:  What IT Auditors Should Know About Storage Area Network (SAN) Security
Tuesday, August 5, 2008, 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

Speaker:
Jose Carreon, Director, Security Technologies, Brocade Communications Systems, Inc.

Storage Area Network (SAN) security has often been overlooked by organizations and IT auditors with the misconception that SANs are inherently safe due to their closed nature. SANs have their own vulnerabilities and weaknesses and it is important that each organization fully understand what these are as well as understanding how to harden their SANs and protect the data that lives on them. Centralization of storage using a SAN has optimized storage significantly but has also made storage an easier and more attractive target for potential attackers than with the previous distributed model. The value of the data centralized on a SAN makes it impossible to ignore its security. With the advent of certain legislations, security has been at the forefront of IT mangers' minds and knowing the security status of their SANs has become important.

Attendees will learn:
1. Why they need to address SAN security.
2. SAN security best practices.
3. SAN security auditing.
