S1:  SELinux in the Enterprise, Enabling Business through SELinux in the Enterprise
Tuesday, August 5, 2008, 10:15 am - 11:15 am

Speaker:
Doc Shankar, Distinguished Engineer, IBM.

Security-Enhanced Linux (SELinux) is technology that strengthens the security of Linux by integrating Mandatory Access control (MAC) into the kernel. Integration of mandatory access controls into Linux provides a number of security advantages which will be discussed. For the first time this powerful security capability has been made available in a mainstream offering (via Linux 2.6 kernel)

In this session we will examine the capabilities of SElinux, the benefit it brings and how we are working to make these benefits available to mainstream enterprise computing. We will present a pilot for the UK Government on the integration of IBM's WebSphere with SELinux. In addition we will give an overview of the trusted Linux project lead by IBM in the open source community. This project made enhancements to SELinux to support multi level security and ensure compliance with the labeled access protection profile.
