Although Git was initially developed as a revision control system specifically to support the Linux Kernel, it is useful for more than Kernel hacking. Git has a variety of applications including everyday IT and system administration needs. This presentation introduces revision control using Git with an eye toward system administration applications. It will cover some basic Git commands for creating, modifying and inspecting repositories. With the basics covered, we will plunge head-long into several examples using git on real-world scenarios including how to manage some web content. The presentation will also introduce git hooks and show how to use them to do check-in notification and start automated builds.
