Hypertable is an open source, high performance, distributed database modeled after Google's Bigtable and designed to be highly scalable in the face of massive Web 2.0 loads. Tables can smoothly and cost-effectively scale to petabytes in size by leveraging a large cluster of commodity hardware. It differs from traditional relational database technology in that the emphasis is on scalability as opposed to advanced querying capability. Hypertable offers fast performance thanks to its implementation in C++ and a simple query language.
