Speaker: Morgan Gillis, Executive Director, LiMo Foundation.
Founded in February 2007 and consisting of over 35 leading ISVs, chipset manufacturers, handset vendors and network operators the LiMo Foundation distinguishes itself through its shared leadership and collective development of a Linux-based middleware platform for mobile devices. LiMo's members collaborate through a transparent governance model that enables broad contributions and rapid development while protecting intellectual property assets of all participating parties. The end result is a middleware platform that ensures common technical functionality across open networks and devices. The first release (R1) of the LiMo Platform was released in April 2008 and is supported on 15+ handsets that are on or will be on the market in 2008; the next release of the platform is in development and is slated for completion at year's end.
This session will provide all attendees with perspective on the business drivers, guiding principles, goals and technical direction of the LiMo Foundation, as well as on the business opportunities enabled by LiMo's output. Mobile developers will learn how they can leverage LiMo's APIs and forthcoming SDKs to create a new generation of mobile applications and services that will be supported LiMo's numerous handset and network operator members.
