Speaker: Jean-Marie Andre, SVP Corporate Development, Purple Labs.
As Linux for Mobile turns into reality and start shipping in volume, the Open Source community discovers specificities of the cellular phones architecture. Among the odd GSM legacies, the SIM card plays the interesting role of the operator Trojan horse, although it is handicaped by stringent backward compatibility requirements. Yet the SIM card enters into a new era that, combined with Linux modularity, could change the dynamics and open new avenues.
Jean-Marie Andre, SVP Corporate Development of Purple Labs, will explain how the USB SIM card will transform the handset into a cellular hub, enable last minute root customization and possibly revolutionize the way payload software is distributed and licensed.
Purple Labs has focused its development on Linux since 2003. As the mobile market evolves (introduction of 3G, standardization of middleware, advent of virtualization), Purple Labs pioneers new mobile technologies within its Linux Suite.
