Speaker: Sean Dague, Senior Software Engineer, IBM.
OpenSim is an open source project providing an alternative implementation of the Linden Second Life protocol. It allows you to host your own virtual world and use the familiar Second Life client to interact with it. It also provides a building block for more complex 3D applications, like IBM's 3D Data Center.
The talk will include an overview of the emerging virtual world / 3D internet space to bring all attendees to a level playing field. It will then dive into using OpenSim on a project, explaining how to setup your own Virtual World with OpenSim, how to extend it to meet your specific needs and some common uses of virtual world platforms.
